A heating tune-up is the cheapest way to avoid a no-heat call in the middle of a Valley cold snap. Prospector Plumbing & Heating tunes up furnaces, boilers and other home heating systems across the Mat-Su Valley, from Wasilla to Palmer, working out of our Wasilla office on N Williwaw Way. A yearly visit catches worn parts, dirty burners and weak safety controls while they are still small fixes.
A tune-up is the right fit if your system has gone more than a year without service, your bills have crept up, or the furnace or boiler sounds or smells different than it used to. It pairs with our furnace repair in the Mat-Su Valley and our Mat-Su water heater installation work, so one crew can look after the whole house.
Most heating systems should be professionally maintained once a year. The best time to book is late summer or early fall, before the system carries a full winter load.
Consultation. We ask what you have noticed and what kind of system you run: forced-air furnace, boiler, hydronic, or a mix.
Inspection. A licensed tech checks burners, ignition, flame, heat exchanger, venting, thermostat, safety controls and, on boilers, pressure, expansion tank and relief valve.
Cleaning and adjustment. We clean what needs cleaning, adjust combustion and airflow, and replace filters where your system has them.
Upfront pricing on any repairs. If a part is worn, you get the price before we replace it. You decide.
Final walk-through. We explain what we found, what to watch for this winter and when to book next.
The Valley sits in Southcentral Alaska. Winters are milder than in Fairbanks, but they are still long, with hard freezes, heavy snow and strong winds in parts of the Valley. Wind matters for heating more than people expect. It pulls heat out of a house faster, and it can affect exhaust venting and intake on some systems, so we pay close attention to vent terminations and clearances during a Valley tune-up.
The Valley has also grown fast, so the housing stock is a mix. Newer subdivisions around Wasilla often run high-efficiency furnaces, while older homes in Palmer and out along the rural roads may have boilers or systems that have been changed by several owners. Many homes here are on private wells, and hard water can leave scale inside boilers and water heaters. A good tune-up looks at the water side of a boiler, not just the burner.
If you heat with a boiler or radiant floors, see our hydronic heating page. If your furnace is near the end of its life, a tune-up is also a good time to talk about a new furnace installation.

Once a year for most furnaces and boilers. Book in late summer or early fall so any parts can be ordered before the cold sets in.

Yes. Most wear is quiet. A yearly check finds dirty burners, weak igniters and failing safety controls before they cause a breakdown. It can't guarantee a system never fails, but it greatly reduces the risk.

Often, yes. Clean burners, correct combustion and good airflow mean the system uses less fuel to make the same heat.

Yes. We service furnaces, boilers and hydronic systems. On boilers we also check pressure, the expansion tank and the relief valve.
